How we list
The short version: a person checks every listing, paid placements are always labelled, and money never buys a verdict.
What gets listed
- It has to solve a problem on this site for a small or medium business, and fit at least one of the ten problem hubs.
- It has to work today. The link resolves, the product or repo is real and maintained, and it does what the listing says.
- Open source means a public repository with a licence. Agent skills and MCP servers need a public repo or official docs. Workflow recipes need real steps using real tools.
- No clones, wrappers that only resell another product without saying so, adult or gambling tools, or anything that collects data deceptively.
Who decides
Curated listings are chosen and written by the editor. Submitted listings are reviewed by a person, who can approve, reject or ask for changes. We may rewrite a description so it's plain and accurate.
What paid placement buys, and what it doesn't
| Paid placement buys | It never buys |
|---|---|
| A review of a product listing ($49, refunded in full if we reject it) | Approval: a rejected listing is refunded, not published |
| A slot at the top of one problem hub, labelled Sponsored ($29/month, max 3 per hub) | A place in the editor's "Start here" picks or the playbook |
| One of four homepage slots, labelled Sponsored ($99/month) | A verdict, "best for" line or answer that we wouldn't otherwise write |
A rel="sponsored" link, as search engines require | Removal of a competitor, or any change to someone else's listing |
Outbound links go through /go/ so listing owners can see click counts. Links are nofollow; paid ones are also marked sponsored.
Verification dates
"Verified" on a listing is the date a person last checked that the link works and the description, pricing tier and setup effort are still right. A nightly job also checks every link and flags broken ones for review. GitHub star counts are refreshed automatically from GitHub; we don't show ratings or numbers we can't source.
Setup effort
- No-code: Set up in a browser; no technical skills needed.
- Low-code: Some configuration: API keys, formulas or a simple script.
- Developer: Needs someone comfortable with code, servers or the command line.
